Top 10 Pressure Washer Do’s & Dont’s – Britclean:

When using one of our high-quality pressure washers it’s important to always make sure you know how to minimise risk and maximise the safety of yourself and those around you. Here at Britclean, we’ve compiled a short of list of “Do’s and Don’ts” to make sure your cleaning experience is as safe as possible.

Ten Tips For Pressure Washer Safety:

  1. Water and electricity rarely mix well. If you’re using an electric machine, take care to avoid getting any of the electrical sockets wet.
  2. Always be aware of your exhausts. Never obstruct the exhaust or use a device where the hot exhaust gases could do damage or have a risk of fire.
  3. On the topic of heat, make sure you cool off. If you are using a hot water machine, always make sure to cool the pressure washer down before switching it off, and never disconnect any hoses or lances until they are pressure-free and cooled down.
  4. Keep warm. In cold temperatures take care to never allow the machine to become frozen.
  5. This one may seem like common sense, but it bears repeating: never leave a pressure washer running when not in use. (Doing this will both keep you safe and stop you wasting extra electricity!)
  6. Check your vitals! At the start of each session, make sure your oil levels are adequate, that your fuel is clean and free of debris, and that any chemicals you might be using are appropriate for use with a high pressure cleaner.
  7. In the rare event that you suspect any damage to your pressure washer or its cabling, never use the machine. Get in touch with us and we will organise to have it repaired – do not attempt any self-repair.
  8. Pressure washers aren’t toys and should never be treated as such. Never point the pressure washer lance at yourself, anyone else, or an animal.
  9. Never use the machine with the water supply turned off unless getting ready to finish with the machine in order to disconnect the hoses.
  10. Always wear the correct protective equipment for your cleaning activities.
